A Busy Week

This has been a particularly busy week for Bob and me, with activities winding down at our park and many people preparing to leave. On Sunday evening our choir and women’s chorus sang in a gospel variety show that featured an hour of solos, duets, and groups. It was a lot of fun.
On Tuesday I made food for two potluck gatherings, then attended a volunteer appreciation luncheon before driving to Costco to pick up my new hearing aid. I have a profound hearing loss in my right ear but fortunately the hearing in the left ear is normal so I only need one hearing aid. While there is a  period of adjustment, I enjoy being able to hear better in a crowd when a lot of people are talking. And I got to try it out that way because we had a neighborhood potluck that evening.

On Wednesday Bob returned to the vascular doctor who was pleased with his recovery. No more blood thinners required! That afternoon I went to another potluck, this one with the women of our Fiber Arts group.

On Thursday the park had its annual Craft Show where the various crafting groups show off the talents of their members. I demonstrated inkle weaving, which was very well received. Many people expressed an interest in learning how to do this so I may be able to teach a class next season.
We woke up this morning to a broken furnace/AC unit. Our 30 year old system had finally passed on. We were able to get a repair person to check it out first thing. Unfortunately, it is not an inexpensive thing to replace, but at least we’ll be getting a much more efficient system, better air quality, and we will be able to have two zones for heating and cooling. That will be a big improvement. The new system will be installed on Monday.

Bob has finished replacing the kitchen cabinet doors so I will post a photo next time.

We will be staying in the park until April 22 so that Bob can see his eye surgeon one last time. I think it will be rather nice to have three weeks with few activities. The gym is still open and Fiber Arts continues to meet two more times, which is nice.

Mardi Gras Parade

Bob sailed through his cataract surgery on his left eye yesterday, and the doctor was very pleased when he checked the eye this morning. Bob is feeling much more like himself today, having slept much of yesterday afternoon. Next Monday the right eye will be addressed.

After the quick visit to the eye surgeon this morning with Bob, I got ready for today’s event: the park’s Mardi Gras parade. Our harmonica group played When the Saints Go Marching In for the crowds that lined the parade route.

We sure have a fun time with our harmonicas!

I realized that I neglected to post a photo of my finished temperature blanket. I finally finished weaving in all the ends a week or so ago.
We are enjoying beautiful weather here now, with temperatures in the 70s and 80s this week. Glorious! Only a week ago we saw snow on the mountains that surround this area, but now winter has finally ended.

Variety Show

This has been a very busy couple of weeks for us. I went to see an otolaryngologist for a checkup on my right ear, since my hearing has been decreasing over the years due to Ménière’s disease. She ended up giving me two steroid injections in my eardrum, one week apart, to see if any of the hearing could be restored. Unfortunately there was no change after two injections, but I must admit I was happy not to have a third one. I’ll be checking out hearing aids soon so I can continue to sing in choir and chorus here in the park.

And speaking of music, our women’s chorus and harmonica group has been practicing for the park’s annual variety show which was held this past Wednesday and Thursday. The theme was the 50’s and 60’s, and it was far more fun than I thought it would be to dress up and be a part of the production.

On Monday Bob has cataract surgery on one eye, and in a week the doctor will operate on the second eye, so we will be busy with that. And then it will be time to start planning our trip to visit family. How the winter has flown!
