Columbus, OH

After getting here safely, Bob and I have been enjoying our stay in Columbus. We met up with Bob’s cousin Jerry and his wife Barbie at a local restaurant for a long-overdue visit. We had a wonderful time catching up and sharing pictures. Hopefully it won’t take so long before we pass through here again.

We had not been face-to-face with Jerry and Barbie since our trip to Louisville, KY at least nine years ago. It was on that trip, taken in our little travel trailer, that we first voiced the desire not to turn back to NJ but to keep heading west. Could we do this full time, we wondered? We met with our financial planner and discovered that we could swing it financially. And so it all began, with a five-year plan that ultimately shortened to a four-year plan.

You may have noticed, dear blog reader, that we love visiting museums as we travel. Large ones, small ones, we love ‘em all. So it was with excitement that we went to see the Ohio Craft Museum on Saturday, which turned out to be a little gem of a museum. The exhibits change regularly but at the moment it features artists with disabilities. We were blown away with the talent represented here.
A giant party-loving bird
The artists are represented in this large painting
A quilt, pieced and then painted, was amazing
A whimsical skeleton made of painted styrofoam, joined with zip ties
CDs have been transformed into woven art
Even the gift shop was like a gallery

This museum really shows you how an artist is not limited by his or her disability.
