Turkens and Fainting Goats

We spent the last couple of days at Blueberry Hill RV Resort in Bushnell, FL, courtesy of our friends Retha and Mike who gave us a gift certificate for two days here.  This park is located across the street from a Walmart, which made it very convenient--we didn't even have to unhook our car! On Halloween we took part in the potluck dinner, made some new friends, and saw some folks we had met in Mystic, CT 18 months ago. The RV world is much smaller than you'd think.

We headed out today and have stopped at a Harvest Hosts location, which is a goat farm on the Florida panhandle. As I sit here writing this, I can hear Guinea fowl making their "chuck chuck" sound as they walk around the motorhome. Seven Great Pyrenees guard-dogs roam the property and keep the animals (us, too, I suppose) safe from marauders. Goats, sheep, and chickens live on the ranch as well, some are in pens and many are loose. It's a neat place.

Some of the goats here are called "Fainting Goats," a breed known for falling over when alarmed. I believe that the goat on the right is a Fainting Goat; the others look like Nubians to me.
Note the odd chickens with long, featherless necks. They are "Turkens," a variety of chickens from Turkey.

Tomorrow we are heading west on rte 10, towards the Mobile, AL area.

  1. You must have passed right by the refuge on Monday. Of course, that's the day the visitor center is closed, but we were around. If you pass by another time when we're here, we might be able to arrange a place for you to stay. Sorry we missed seeing you again!
